Grosvenor Americas installs sculpture by renowned artist Rodney Carroll at Central Apartments

Grosvenor Americas has completed the installation of 'Crossroads', an elegant and dynamic sculpture created by internationally renowned artist Rodney Carroll, at Central Apartments in Silver Spring.

The stainless-steel structure stands 32 feet tall and is in the property’s paseo off Wayne Avenue, overlooking Central’s eclectic El Sapo Cuban Social Club. In interpreting the piece, Carroll explains:

“This is a modern work that looks to the future and also acknowledges the art deco design that is part of the historical vintage of the architecture in Silver Spring.”

Crossroads is the latest addition to the area’s evolving public realm; the Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District currently displays over 50 pieces of public art.

Carroll’s sculpture also completes the art story at Central Apartments. The award-winning property features movie and music posters from local venues throughout the building that pay homage to Silver Spring’s connection to entertainment. In addition, the building contains three unique murals created by local street artist JD Deardourff with the largest and most prominent lying at the bottom of the swimming pool where lounge chairs rest over an image of a sandy beach with crashing waves.

D.J. Sworobuk, Grosvenor’s Vice President of Investment, said:

“As part of our commitment to improving properties and places, we have prioritized incorporating meaningful art at Central to enhance the daily enjoyment of our residents. It’s been a team effort - from construction and architecture to design and leasing – to implement our thoughtful mix of amenities, including our art contribution, for our neighbours and visitors to Silver Spring.”

Central is a LEED Silver mixed-use property that offers a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartment homes, finished in a contemporary design. Building amenities include a pool and sundeck, entertainment lounge, expansive 24-hour fitness center, pet-spa, and 24/7 concierge. Onsite retailers include Orange Theory Fitness, Pure Barre, and El Sapo Cuban Social Club.

The Bozzuto Group manages and leases the property which is currently at 95% occupancy. Stay in touch with the community by following on Instagram (@liveatcentralapts), Facebook (@LiveatCentral), and Twitter (@LiveatCentral).
