Grosvenor Britain & Ireland Launches Innovation Team

Team to help business to adapt to changing needs of residents, tenants and visitors as well as achieve sustainability goals.

Grosvenor Britain & Ireland has launched an innovation team to help it become a more resilient, agile business in the face of increasing digital disruption and evolving tenant needs.

The team will be led by Hema Selvaraj, a newly appointed Innovation Director with over 15 years’ experience developing and adapting the operational, digital and commercial capabilities of businesses including Tesco, The Disney Store and Glanbia. Hema holds an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management and a certificate on Business Innovation & Entrepreneurship from Stanford University.

The business’ portfolio comprises its estate of Mayfair & Belgravia, its Bermondsey build to rent proposals, a 15,000 home pipeline managed by its Strategic Land division and a recently announced regional investment strategy.

The innovation team will fast track investment in, and testing of, projects and technologies which will enable us to be more agile in how we respond to the adapting needs of residents, tenants, customers and visitors. They will support our purpose of delivering both lasting commercial and social value and help identify creative ways to meet our business’ challenging 2030 and 2050 environmental goals.

This strategy complements the group’s global innovation strategy. In May 2019, Grosvenor Group launched a Digital Innovation unit to focus on developing a response to digital disruption through protecting and enhancing existing business as well as look for new sources of income and value.

Grosvenor has already initiated a number of innovations to help it meet its goals including:

  1.  A recent partnership with Plug and Play, a group that connects businesses with tech start-ups to source specific digital strategies;
  2. The launch of the Retail Concierge Service making it easier for small independent businesses to take space on its London estate.

Sam Monger, Director of Strategy & Research, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland commented:
“The needs of our residents, customers and tenants are changing rapidly, and we need to be more competitive and agile to ensure we remain a commercially, socially and environmentally sustainable business.

“From improving air quality and the sustainability of our developments to continuing to attract businesses, retailers and customers to our destinations, innovation is one of the biggest levers we have.

“We have already made a great start, with over 130 ideas generated internally and 27 live innovation projects in progress.  With Hema on board, our new innovation team will encourage the business to think and act differently, creating the foundations for another 300 years of success and a lasting and positive legacy for our communities.”

Hema Selvaraj, Innovation Director, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, added:
“I am truly honoured to join Grosvenor as Innovation Director at such a transformational time. We live in a fast-changing world where business models are constantly evolving to address changing customer behaviours, technological advancements, macroeconomic trends and environmental concerns. As they say, change presents opportunity! And, innovation holds the key to unlocking this opportunity. I look forward to championing and driving the innovation agenda at Grosvenor. Watch this space!”
