The Westminster Roppongi takes home gold for best refurbished building at 2015 MIPIM Asia awards
Grosvenor Asia Pacific, the regional proprietary arm of privately owned international property investment and development group Grosvenor, announced today that its residential project The Westminster Roppongi has been awarded the Gold prize in the Best Refurbished Building category at the 2015 MIPIM Asia Awards
Grosvenor Asia Pacific, the regional proprietary arm of privately owned international property investment and development group Grosvenor, announced today that its residential project The Westminster Roppongi has been awarded the Gold prize in the Best Refurbished Building category at the 2015 MIPIM Asia Awards.
This is the second major property award the project has received, having previously won the Five-Star Residential Renovation/Redevelopment Award at the Asia Pacific Property Awards.
The MIPIM Asia Awards recognises the property industry’s best and brightest, rewarding innovation and achievement in a variety of fields. After selection by a highly-respected jury and a vote by MIPIM Asia delegates, the Gold, Silver and Bronze award winners were announced during the MIPIM Asia Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday 1 December 2015 at the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong, with close to 300 of the most influential real estate professionals in Asia Pacific in attendance.
On the award, Koshiro Hiroi, Managing Director of Asia Pacific Development and Chief Representative Japan, commented, “The Westminster Roppongi’s win is a testament to the innovative design, high-quality finishes and exceptional services on offer at the property. As well as this industry recognition, the project has also been received very well by the market; we have sold all units ahead of schedule and approximately 10% above forecasts. It is clear that there is demand for high-quality residential projects in Tokyo both locally and overseas – 40% of purchases at The Westminster Roppongi were made by foreign buyers. We look forward to continue meeting this demand with future projects.”
Grosvenor Asia Pacific worked with renovation specialists PDP London (formerly Paul Davis + Partners) to bring a balance of contemporary western design and traditional Japanese craft to the renovation. David Hoggard, Managing Director for PDP London Hong Kong Studio, said, “We wanted to subtly enhance the existing character of the building. The original construction was rather cold in its appearance, so we worked to make it warmer and hence more welcoming by using rich and inherently beautiful natural materials such as timber, slate and marble. We also deliberately kept the number of materials used to a minimum to keep the interior spaces calm and uncluttered throughout."
Grosvenor has a history of award-winning residential properties in the region, including previous Tokyo development Grosvenor Place Kamizono-cho, and The Westminster Terrace in Hong Kong. Upcoming projects include the latest Westminster-branded refurbishment, situated within the Shibuya district of Tokyo, due to launch in Q2 2016, and an as-yet unnamed residential development in Hong Kong – located in the prime Jardine’s Lookout district, is being developed in joint venture with Asia Standard International and Couture Homes Limited, and due for completion in 2017.
