Grosvenor announces letting to team behind critically acclaimed restaurant Medlar

  • New rooftop restaurant ‘Cornus’ set to open at The Ice Factory, Belgravia in Summer 2024
  • Grosvenor’s Ice Factory Now Fully Let

Joe Mercer Nairne and David O’Connor of Medlar restaurant are set to bring Cornus, a new dining concept, to the rooftop unit at Grosvenor’s Ice Factory in Summer 2024.

Originally built in 1830 for Shingleton’s Ice Company, The Ice Factory is a re-purposed warehouse which includes one of the only rooftop terraces in the area. In its nearly 200-year history, it has been adapted as a coachwork, power station and motor repair centre.

The Ice Factory sits on the Victoria/Belgravia border offering immediate access to transport hubs and a large office and residential catchment area. It is a new addition to Grosvenor’s Eccleston Yards, a leafy courtyard known for its retail, food and wellness offering which is home to brands including Barry’s Bootcamp, Wild by Tart and Re:Mind as well as Grosvenor’s flexible office space 25EP. Following this letting, The Ice Factory is now fully let with other occupiers including Javelin Global Commodities and Psycle London.

The team’s opening in Belgravia, their first new site since opening Medlar in 2011, was supported by Grosvenor’s Tenant Investment Fund. The future fit out of the restaurant, which includes a gasless kitchen, will be part funded through a loan from Grosvenor.

Further announcements regarding the appointment of a chef and the concept will follow.

Jane Macdiarmid, Belgravia Retail Director, Grosvenor said: “We’re delighted the Ice Factory will host Joe and David’s highly anticipated second concept, Cornus. Their arrival marks a significant step in cementing Belgravia in London’s dining scene and furthers the area’s standing as a hub for exceptional lifestyle and wellbeing brands.”

David O’Connor added: “We can offer Belgravia a unique, independent high-end restaurant, that would represent one of the most important hospitality openings of the year and help solidify Eccleston Yards and the Ice Factory as a destination.”

“The aim is for the restaurant to become an institution over time and compete with the very best London has to offer. We plan to instil our strong customer service philosophy, creating repeat business, and attach a world-class wine program with our network of highly skilled sommeliers. Whilst top level food is almost a prerequisite, it is this front of house philosophy that creates destination venues that stand the test of time.”

Josh Leon, Central London Restaurant Lead at Savills said: “A 4th floor restaurant is an unusual proposition requiring an operator with imagination and pulling power, both of which Joe and David possess as proven over many years at Medlar which is consistently one of London’s best restaurants”.
