Grosvenor Receives Final Zoning Commission Approval on 3300 Whitehaven Street in Washington, DC

Washington, D.C. - Grosvenor, a privately owned international property group, announced it has received Zoning Commission approval on a new multifamily building for the Washington D.C. market. The new seven-story building will serve as the major component of the company’s redevelopment project known as 3300 Whitehaven Street, located just off Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown.

Grosvenor acquired the 3.15-acre site in 2020 with two existing buildings in place – a now-vacant Georgetown University office building located at 3300 Whitehaven Street NW and an adjacent building located at 2001 Wisconsin Avenue NW that Grosvenor leases to the British International School of Washington.  The company announced plans to redevelop the site, which involves replacing the former Georgetown University office building with a new multifamily residential property while preserving and enhancing the facilities for the existing school.

With zoning approvals now in place, Grosvenor is one step closer to delivering on its vision of bringing 268 new homes – approximately 15% of which will be affordable – to the under-supplied Georgetown submarket.

The first phase of the project, completed last year, added a new athletic facility for the school. Designed to support student needs and the school’s long-term requirements, the facility functions as both a gymnasium and auditorium with seating for 198 spectators, meaning functions that previously occurred elsewhere can now happen on site, benefiting the students, the school and the community.

Additionally, in support of Grosvenor’s company-wide ambition to reduce carbon emissions in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C, mass timber/CLT structural systems, carboncure concrete and other sustainable building measures are being considered.

We are thrilled that the Zoning Commission has approved our 3300 Whitehaven redevelopment project. We look forward to bringing this collection of sustainable, new apartment homes to the deeply supply constrained Georgetown neighbourhood,” said Eddie Mansius, Senior Development Manager for Grosvenor in Washington, D.C.
