Empowering local communities to address the climate emergency

Maximising the impact of philanthropy

Greener Futures is the £1m+ community investment programme focused on communities and the climate emergency built by Grosvenor’s UK property businessThe four-year programme, running from 2021-2025, aims to improve people’s lives by:

  • Supporting training and jobs in the green economy

  • Enabling communities to take climate action

  • Improving disadvantaged young people's access to nature

To help deliver our aims we are working with partners at Groundwork, the Westminster Foundation and London Community Foundation.

This programme represents the huge potential of involving communities in the climate response. It also signifies a shift in our approach to charitable giving to maximise social impact by integrating philanthropy with strategic interests and aligning with urgent societal needs

In year one alone £230,000 has been awarded to 9 projects in Westminster and Southwark through a ‘Greener Futures Fund’ with the London Community Foundationbenefitting an c23,000 people. Many grants were given to organisations supporting under-represented groups, including people with learning disabilities, from ethnic minorities and young people. In addition to this funding, over 800 volunteering hours have been delivered by staff and five previously unemployed people have started training in green jobs with Groundwork.

We are trialling a Greener Futures Fund with Liverpool One and the Community Foundation for Merseyside to “empower young people to take climate action”. £44,000 will be awarded to 11 projects based in the Liverpool City Region that include youth-led social action, recycling initiatives and an outdoor classroom: collectively benefitting c.900 people
